<p><strong>Kelly</strong>: Hi, Jane. Do you want to come and help me raise money for Barnado’s?</p>
<p><strong>Jane</strong>: Barnando’s? What’s that?</p>
<p><strong>Kelly</strong>: It’s a charity that does some amazing things to help children and young people.</p>
<p><strong>Jane</strong>: Cool! Really?</p>
<p><strong>Kelly</strong>: Yes. It’s called Barnando’s because a man called Thomas John Barnando founded it. He was from Ireland and he came to London to train as a doctor. When he saw homeless and sick children in London, he decided to do something to help. It’s a very old charity.</p>
<p><strong>Jane</strong>: When did it start?</p>
<p><strong>Kelly</strong>: In 1867 and it still helps children to this day!</p>
<p><strong>Jane</strong>: Wow! That is old! So, what sort of things do they do today?</p>
<p><strong>Kelly</strong>: The charity supports teens, protects young children and helps provide education.</p>
<p><strong>Jane</strong>: That’s fantastic. It sounds like they really make a difference.</p>
<p><strong>Kelly</strong>: You bet! In 2018–2019 they helped 300,000 kids!</p>
<p><strong>Jane</strong>: Incredible! Actually, I think I saw a shop in the high street called Barnando’s.</p>
<p><strong>Kelly</strong>: That’s right! Barnando’s is an NGO, so they have to raise money themselves. They do this with charity shops, events and donations. So, what do you say? Do you want to come to the charity event tomorrow?</p>
<p><strong>Jane</strong>: Absolutely! I’d love to help!</p>
